A wind mitigation inspection documents the features that help your home stand up to hurricane winds, on the form Florida insurers use to set your wind credits. Integrity Inspections is based in North Port and serves homeowners across Southwest Florida.

What the Inspection Documents
Florida law requires insurers to offer premium discounts for construction features that reduce wind damage. To apply them, your insurer needs those features verified on the state's Uniform Mitigation Verification Inspection Form, OIR-B1-1802. Kevin inspects the home, takes photos of each feature and completes the form for you to send to your agent.
The form asks about seven things: the building code the home was built under, the roof covering, how the roof deck is attached, how the roof is connected to the walls, the roof shape, whether there is secondary water resistance under the roof covering, and how the windows, doors and garage door are protected.

North Port Homes and Wind Credits
North Port has homes from every decade since the 1960s, so wind features vary from street to street. Homes permitted under the Florida Building Code, which took effect in 2002, often qualify for the building code credit. Older concrete-block homes may still have clips or straps tying the roof to the walls, and a hip roof earns more credit than a gable roof.
After Hurricane Ian in 2022, many North Port homes got new roofs. A roof replaced to current code can change several answers on the form, so if your report was written before the new roof went on, ask your agent whether an updated one would help. Have These Ready

Buying or Already Own the Home
If you are buying, schedule the wind mitigation inspection during your inspection period so your insurance quote reflects the credits before you close. Owners can order one any time, and renewal is a good moment to check that your policy has the credits your home earns.
Older homes often also need a 4-point inspection for the insurer, and we offer roof certifications as well. Reports are delivered within 24 hours, with no travel fees anywhere in Sarasota, Manatee, Lee, Charlotte and Hillsborough Counties.
We are based in North Port and inspect homes throughout Southwest Florida, including Sarasota. Getting ready for storm season? Our hurricane prep guide lists what to check around the house.
Wind Mitigation Questions
How long is a wind mitigation report good for?
The state form is generally accepted for up to five years, as long as nothing on the home has changed that would affect the answers. A new roof, new windows or new shutters are good reasons to get an updated report.
My home is newer. Do I still need one?
Yes, and newer homes often benefit the most. Homes built under the Florida Building Code usually have the stronger roof deck nailing, roof-to-wall connections and window protection that earn credits, but your insurer can only apply them once they are documented.
Do you need to get into the attic?
Yes. The roof deck attachment and the roof-to-wall connections are verified from the attic, so please make sure the attic access is clear on the day of the inspection.
Can I get a 4-point inspection at the same time?
Yes. Many insurers ask for a 4-point on older homes, and the two reports are often requested together when you buy a home or change carriers.
